Ranfurly Primary School was founded in 1993, and is located in a developing residential area of Mildura. The School celebrated 25 years in 2018. The school has a current population of approximately four hundred students; enrolment numbers have remained steady over the last few years. The school is a State School with the Department of Education and Training (DET) that is aligned to the Mallee Network of Schools in the North West Region.
The student population is diverse providing a richness of cultural diversity making Ranfurly a unique and successful environment for learning. Our school offers comprehensive teaching and learning programs based around the Victorian Curriculum. Improving standards in the development of Literacy and Numeracy and a continued focus on wellbeing and discipline are our ongoing priorities. At Ranfurly we limit class sizes to range from 20 to 25. Specialist programs operate in Visual Arts, Music/Performing Arts and Physical Education. Extra-curricular activities provide our students with cultural, musical and sporting opportunities to enjoy and develop.
We are extremely fortunate to have a staffing profile of enthusiastic, experienced and dedicated staff who continually work with their colleagues to ensure the best possible educational programs are implemented for all students. This is evident in our classroom programs as our teachers are continually striving to be innovative and inspiring so all of our students feel successful in their learning, challenged and are motivated to reach their full potential.
The explicit teaching of the development of student voice is an integral part of all curriculum delivery, and a variety of thinking tools and strategies are utilised throughout the teaching and learning program to promote student Meta-cognition. Children are being taught about how they learn, so that they understand that learning is a process that they can use to improve their own lives now and in the future. The You Can Do It Program forms a solid foundation for our comprehensive social competencies education, and special leadership programs equip senior students for the vital role they play within the leadership structure of the school.
Ranfurly provides a language program teaching students Chinese (Mandarin language spoken in Beijing) which promotes students capacity to experience and learn another culture/ language within our region and develops understandings about global citizenship.
The modern permanent buildings house 19 classrooms and are designed in such a way that allows flexible teaching groups to be utilised when appropriate. Additional relocatable classrooms provide extra learning spaces. The modern, well-equipped library is the focal centre of the school as both a learning and resource centre. An Arts facilities, gymnasium, computer lab and canteen complement the other facilities.
The attractive and well-maintained grounds cover an area of approximately three and a half hectares with a frontage to Ontario Avenue and are fully landscaped. There is an oval, a cricket pitch, two basketball/netball courts and multiple play areas. The southern boundary adjoins Walnut Park, a two-hectare community parkland developed by Mildura Rural City Council.
Classrooms at Ranfurly Primary School offer your family safe, supportive and digitally rich learning environments that act as a portal to the world. With interactive whiteboards/ televisions, STEAMED (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics, Entrepernership and Design) and Digital Curriculum quality activities. Students in Years 3 to 6 have individual access to Net Books while classes from Prep to Grade 2 have classroom computers and multiple touch devices such as iPads.
The School Council and Parents’ Club are very active and support the wide range of programs offered at the school and there is an emphasis on parental involvement and family activities. The school motto is RESPECT for others, PRIDE in ourselves and SAFETY for all and this provides the basis for all aspects of student conduct. A priority of our Strategic Plan (2016-2019) is student well-being, which reflects a commitment to the individual development and personal well-being of all students and to a safe and caring environment.
